Company History
Don Morse, Sr. began the pursuit of his entrepreneurial dream in 1944 with an unwavering determination to succeed. Buoyed by support from his wife and family, Don established Morse Electric as a high-quality electrical contractor in the Freeport area. Upon his premature death in 1959, his wife Joyce took the helm in order to keep her husband's 15-year-old business alive.
Until her son Don Jr. came into the office in 1967 after earning his journeyman's card through the IBEW, Joyce continued to mold the business her husband envisioned in 1944. Shortly thereafter, Don and his mother began joint management of the company and began expanding their geographical reach further into NW Illinois
After obtaining his college degree in 1973, Don's younger brother David joined the family business and became a journeyman electrician through the IBEW. Through these experiences, he gained valuable knowledge for estimating and project management. When Joyce contracted cancer in 1976, Don's wife Janey joined the management team of Morse Electric and has continued as Morse Electric's CFO.
The next 10 years would see Morse Electric join the upper echelon of electrical contractors in the Midwestern United States. By the late 1980's, we had expanded operations to Dubuque, IA; Rockford, IL; and Belvidere, IL. In the early-to-mid 1990's, Morse Electric continued its growth by adding Wisconsin subsidiary Amp Electric and acquiring Carroll County Electric. Our primary operations grew to encompass all of Northern Illinois (including Chicago and its suburbs), Southern Wisconsin (including Madison and Milwaukee) and Northeast Iowa.
Since that time, Morse Electric has expanded its reach and expertise in the world of electrical construction, engineering, design, maintenance, high voltage and testing to serve customers throughout the United States and Canada. We have grown into a fully independent electrical contracting company capable of providing turnkey solutions for commercial, industrial and utility customers. Our design, engineering, installation and testing services encompass fiber optics to 345KV utilities.
As a part of The Morse Group of Companies, we have the staffing, equipment and financial stability to manage both large and small projects for a wide variety of industries and markets. As we look to the future, our dedicated team of over 350 employees anticipates helping you with all of your electrical contracting needs - from the design to installing and commissioning your electrical systems
